The Iglucraft Feel: Transforming Cabin Interiors with Jason Lawlor
Thanks to Jason Lawlor's visionary efforts, we've taken the enchantment of our cabin exteriors and mirrored that charm inside. Here are Jason's thoughts on the whole experience:
When Iglucraft and I began to collaborate on their cabins it was obvious the exteriors created a huge amount of engagement. The question was what to do with the interior?
I had recently relocated to Tallinn but for more than 20 years previously I lived in the UK; designing, managing, manufacturing & building premium & luxury design around the world. During these years I travelled frequently between the two countries, developing a real appreciation for so many cool, uniquely Estonian things. So I felt well placed to provide an international perspective, protective of Iglucraft’s uniqueness but using my experience to shape an interior that their customers would enjoy.
The Kitchen - It’s not just first impressions that count
My starting point is always a deeper understanding of the client; who they are, what they want, what they need; even what they dream of. It became clear that the challenge was for the interior to live up to the great first impression the exterior generated; we needed the interior design to make a great ‘second impression’ too.
When you step through the door of a cabin you first encounter the kitchen area so this became the focus. We developed a kitchen that had an Iglucraft feel, with all the practical necessities, a few useful surprises with a swing out table and stools, all executed in reassuringly high quality materials. We now had a ‘second impression’ that spoke of character, ingenuity and quality.
The Bathroom - Playing with space to bring out the fun
When we talked about the bathroom I could see it would be not only a great use of space, but more importantly great fun, to have the shower in the one of the rounded ends. The shower has clean lines and a minimum of fuss so the curves define the space. This in turn makes these organic shapes a satisfying reminder that you are somewhere truly unique.
The Bedroom - Sometimes you need the courage to say less is more
One of the simplest transformations was the bedroom. The domed ceiling was formed by a fantastic array of shingles. These deserved to be highlighted so we simplified the lighting to create a soft glow rising up from behind the furnishings. Now an already charming space became twice as atmospheric & cozy.
