To understand the journey behind Metsik Maja, we spoke with Maarja, the project manager behind this unique escape.

How did you discover Iglucraft?

“We were looking for something that not only blended seamlessly with the environment but also aligned with our values of appreciating nature and caring for the forests. Iglucraft immediately stood out. It’s a well-known brand with high-quality craftsmanship. It was a conscious and well-thought-out decision. Iglucraft’s saunas have this handcrafted, organic look that feels right at home in the wilderness.”

How did the installation go?

“We were very mindful of preserving the forest. Our goal was to create this retreat without disrupting nature. The builders took great care to ensure that no trees were unnecessarily removed. There was one birch tree in the way, but instead of cutting it down, we carefully lifted it with an excavator and replanted it after installation. Every step of the process was guided by respect for the environment.”

When did you start marketing Metsik Maja?

Everything truly started coming together in June 2023. We officially launched in August and opened bookings, and by then, I had started working on photography and marketing efforts. The response was overwhelming—within the first month, 19 nights were fully booked.

What kind of guests visit the retreat?

“It attracts those who appreciate the calm, quiet beauty of the forest and the joy of being surrounded by wildlife. People who love outdoor activities such as hiking, running, or simply exploring nature will feel right at home here. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect and find peace.”

What are the most frequently mentioned highlights of the stay?

“The sauna is one of the highlights of their stay. Many say it’s their favorite part of the experience. There’s something special about sitting in the warmth, stepping outside into the crisp forest air, and watching the stars. In winter, some guests even take a plunge into the snow after a sauna session. The electric heater was our choice for its ability to maintain a stable temperature and deliver gentle, humid steam. It’s also incredibly user-friendly for our clients.”

“From the very first day Metsik Maja opened, nature has been full of surprises. Wildlife encounters are an everyday part of life here. Guests often leave notes in the guestbook about the animals they’ve seen—foxes, deer, wild boar, lynx, and even a bear. A trail camera has captured beavers hard at work, and in the spring, guests have been lucky enough to witness squirrels performing their playful courtship dance.”
